Art-Elligence (Artificial Intelligence)
Artificial Intelligence refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions.
Artificial Intelligence exhibits traits associated with the human mind such as learning and problem solving. The ideal characteristics of artificial intelligence is its ability to rationalize and take actions that have the best chance of success.
AI research was born in a workshop at Dartmouth college in 1956, where the term “Artificial Intelligence” was coined by John Mccarthy. Due to machines incapability in that time, artificial intelligence slowed progress. In 1974 criticism by Sir James Lighthill and pressure from US congress to fund the productive projects, led artificial intelligence to shut down due to lack of fundings. The next few years are called “AI Winter”.
In the late 1990s, AI began to be used for logistics, data mining, medical diagnosis and other areas. Deep Blue became the first AI based computer chess game to beat a reigning World Chess Champion, Garry Kasparov on 11 may 1997. One of the best recent examples of AI includes Microsoft’s development of Skype that can automatically translate from one language to another and Facebook’s system that can describe faces to blind people.
Stephen Hawking says the primitive forms of artificial intelligence developed so far have already proved itself useful, but he fears the consequences of creating something who can surpass humans.
Stephen Hawking said-
“It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever-increasing rate. Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn’t compete and would be superseded”.
By 2014, both physicist Stephen Hawking and business magnate Elon Musk had publicly voiced their opinion about Superhuman Artificial Intelligence could provide incalculable benefits, but could also end the human race if deployed incautiously.
As a Tech freak I can say, it’s a big boon in cursedly way. In my opinion, as a technological advancement we can advance so many benefits by achieving superhuman intelligence and gain much value in our day to day life. But as a concerned person there are quite more consequences around as, if AI can take over human jobs in near future and can achieve their goals frequently, but they cannot identify the Right way or Wrong way, they just driven to achieve their goals .
They can treat humans as bugs and don’t hesitate to destroy and take over as leader by force. So as of now I can only hope that Artificial Intelligence deployed in such a way that it cannot harm humans and the environment for good.
